Oxides and non-metallic impurities in the charge are insoluble in molten metal. When the induction furnace is working, the induced current will form a great stirring force on the molten metal, and the slag particles suspended in it will gradually grow up under such a strong stirring effect, and the buoyancy will also gradually increase. When the buoyancy is greater than the stirring force, the grown slag particles will float up into the melt surface.
The slag particles gradually approach the furnace wall under the action of strong stirring and centrifugal force. Because the temperature of the furnace lining is relatively low, the melting point of the slag particles is relatively high. When the lining temperature is lower than the solidification temperature of the slag particles, the slag will adhere to the lining and condense into a solid state. The higher the solidification temperature of the slag, the easier it is to be cooled by the lining, and finally form sticky slag on the furnace wall.
So is there any good solution to the sticky slag in the smelting furnace?
One is the mechanical removal method. After the sticky slag appears on the furnace lining, mechanical means, such as shovels and iron bars, are used to scrape off the sticky slag on the furnace lining. Of course, when the workers scrape off the slag, in order to ensure the safety of the operation, the sticky slag can be easily scraped off, which will increase the smelting temperature. The other is the chemical removal method. According to the principle of slag formation, the formation mechanism of sticky slag is changed to fundamentally eliminate the possibility of lining sticky slag. The chemical breaking method uses this principle to change the properties of the slag and reduce its melting point by adding some additives. If the solidification temperature of the slag particles is lower than the lining temperature, even if they contact the furnace lining during the floating process, the slag particles will not solidify on the furnace wall to form sticky slag.
Pay attention to the following points when cleaning the sticky slag in the furnace:
1. For the continuous production furnace type, each shift should be cleaned once. After 5~15 furnaces of melting, the melting furnace should be thoroughly cleaned;
2. When changing alloy varieties, the furnace body should be thoroughly cleaned;
